SHAKLEE INDEPENDENT DISTRIBUTOR REACHING OUT TO LOCAL EMERGENCY SHELTER TO RAISE AWARENESS FOR TRANSITIONAL SERVICES FOR THE HOMELESS
Local, Multi-generational Family Owned And Operated Small Business For 45+ Years Donating Water Filtration Products Monthly
To Organization That Provides Temporary Day And Night Shelter For Homeless Families With Children
Robert L. Ewing, Inc. of SE Portland is launching a program called “RLEI’s Environmental Concerns Go Elemental” by making an initial donation of Shaklee’s Get Clean® Water (a revolutionary new water filtration pitcher system certified by the Water Quality Association to reduce up to 99% of lead) to Portland Homeless Family Solutions (Giving Hope to Homeless Families with Children), in SW Portland. Recurring monthly donated products will also include Shaklee’s Get Clean® Fresh Laundry Concentrate and Essentials® personal care products (like paraben-free antiperspirant and organic dentifrice), for the families to use while staying at their facilities.
“We believe those neediest also deserve access to the best of an earthly basic. We encourage our customers to provide the cleanest, healthiest water for their families in their homes, but what about those without homes right now? The facts about our global water situation are staggering in general. About 20% of the world’s population lacks access to safe drinking water and about 50% lacks adequate sanitation. Water pollution is responsible for around 15,000 deaths each day. Up to 20% of human lead exposure comes from drinking water. There are pesticides, heavy metals, and industrial pollutants in our water, even when it looks clean coming out of the faucet. And yet when it comes to tap water versus bottled water, there’s no question for us which is a better choice. One billion dollars worth of plastic water bottles goes into landfills and litter each year. We are passionate about many health and environmental issues, and water is definitely at the top of the list. So for us, it becomes a question of where can you start? Well, we’ve decided to start by connecting with this important organization that is really making a difference. They provide shelter, food, clothes, a place to do laundry, to bathe, toys and entertainment, and services to support these families finding jobs and permanent housing. Now they will be able to offer them healthy, safe drinking water. I toured their night shelter facility and was so impressed by how creative and caring they are. And they rely so much on their indispensible volunteers and donors to do what they do, it’s so emotional,” says Summer Spinks-Marasco, 3rd generation member of her family’s business.
Portland Homeless Family Solutions’ mission is to offer temporary, emergency shelter to homeless families with children; to provide transitional services to help homeless families find permanent housing and achieve self-sufficiency; and to advocate for the alleviation of family homelessness and its root causes.
PHFS operates two emergency shelters for homeless families – the Goose Hollow Family Shelter and the Thirteen Salmon Family Center. Goose Hollow is a night shelter for homeless families with children and is located downtown Portland at the First United Methodist Church. Thirteen Salmon is a day shelter for the families staying at Goose Hollow and it is located downtown at the First Unitarian Church of Portland. (To contact, visit www.pdxhfs.org.)
“My grandparent’s business has been completely about helping people from the beginning, as partners with Shaklee Corporation. And as their children and grandchildren, we are looking forward to continuing that legacy. Our priorities with our donation program are the health of people, pets, and the planet,” says Spinks-Marasco. “Shaklee products are 100% money back guaranteed to be always safe, always work, and always green. Get Clean® Water is the first pitcher to use a refillable carbon-block filter system so there’s less plastic to throw away. It’s made with sustainable coconut shell carbon, which is better for the environment. And it filters 80 gallons of water per filter-twice as much as other leading brands. It costs only pennies a gallon to have water in your home free of harmful contaminants like disinfection by-products and agricultural pollutants. This is why we are independent distributors of these products, we love sharing them with everyone.”
