STEVE & SUSAN VANDER PYL: SENIOR COORDINATOR in Franklin Lakes, New Jersey

“16 years ago Steve and I were introduced to Shaklee. As a young married couple who hoped to start a family, I did my due diligence to learn what we could do to give our future children ‘the best start’.

As a nurse, I was knowledgeable in medical science but my training in nursing school regarding nutrition was very limited to say the least. I started asking questions … and my curiosity grew. It wasn’t until I met a local Shaklee distributor that I felt I had finally found something that Steve and I could trust our future family to. Steve and I started using the products and felt the difference. Shaklee fueled my body through 4 healthy pregnancies, and Steve’s body through the diagnosis of melanoma, as well as, the physical demands of his work as a Police Officer.

Our Shaklee business initially grew organically. With a husband who works shifts and 4 children under the age of 5, I felt I was “too busy” to take on any entrepreneurial endeavor. But I found that in simple day to day conversations, I was recommending Shaklee because of what it had done for our family. And in a slow and steady way, I found myself in the middle of a successful business. One where I could meet the needs of my young family and still have the joy of helping others as well.

Recently, hearing Roger Barnett’s mission of changing ‘sickcare into wellcare’ really resounded with me. I believe now more than ever that it is time for us to change the way we think about our health. Since the COVID-19 pandemic started, my heart has been with those on the front lines, from those who staff the grocery markets to those in healthcare and first responders. Honestly, there was part of me that felt guilty knowing that I was giving my family the best products to support our health and had no way of being able to support others on the frontlines. And then it hit me: Shaklee Cares. I reached out and explained that I really believe that Shaklee products are ANOTHER LINE OF PPE for first responders and healthcare providers and asked if they would consider sending products for distribution in our area as we have the highest number of cases in New Jersey. My request was simple but I felt it with every fiber of my being. Needless to say, when Shaklee Cares called and said that they would fulfill my request, I was moved to tears. For me, this is one of the first steps in changing sickcare to wellcare-supporting those on the front lines. And for Shaklee Corporate to trust me to be the hands and feet? A privilege.

16 years ago, when I had that initial meeting, I had no idea how Shaklee would transform our lives. How a simple ‘yes, I’ll try it’ would turn into a way of life.”

Susan’s family is not only full of first responders and healthcare workers, to which we are all so grateful for during this unprecedented time, but she’s using her servant heart to help others on the frontlines too. Her family is an example of everyday heroes that step it up in times of crisis.

Consider the long history of her Shaklee lineage…
