JAMES & SUSAN BARTZ-HERRICK: MASTER COORDINATORS in Fayetteville, North Carolina

“One never knows where a family road trip will lead. The year was 1969 and off we were to sunny California to visit my cousins. Little did I know that our family road trip would change all our lives forever, as that is when my Aunt Ruth told my mother about Shaklee.

At first my mother, Helene Bartz, wanted nothing to do with multi-level marketing. After a few more conversations, Mom quickly fell in love with the Shaklee philosophy and products as they were nature based. In no time Mom was sold on Shaklee and on the trip back to Chicago I shared the back seat with a ton of boxes and a very skeptical father at the wheel wondering what she had gotten herself into.

That was 50 years ago; over 22 free Shaklee cars, 48 free Shaklee trips – 28 of them international, and thousands of friends and satisfied customers. Talk about a life well lived. I was a spoiled Shaklee kid!

We had meetings going on constantly. We worked hard and played hard. Shaklee enabled my mother to send me to school and pursue my graduate degrees. I went on to become a professor of Speech and Theater and yet kept on helping with our business as she took me on as a partner over 25 years ago. What an organization! We now have 4 other Master Coordinators (Fredericks, Cash, Underwood, and Guerra) and 2 Senior Master Coordinators (Glacken and Lagoni). All because one woman said ‘Yes’ to the Shaklee Opportunity.

50 years also brought with it many changes and heartbreaks as one can image. Life, loss, accidents, illness, passing of loved ones and family are just natural occurrences. One thing that remained at the center of our lives however was Shaklee, as it afforded us the ability to work hard when we wanted, and to take time off when we needed – without a change in the generous bonus checks. How many professions can say that? Even after my mother passed away in 2012 and left me her organization, we never skipped a beat.

My cousin Grace now runs her mother’s business and I have recently retired from the University to work Shaklee full time and have every intention of taking it to the next levels of Senior and Presidential Master Coordinator. We are just a couple of Directors away! Over these past 8 years I have updated our approach and personalized the business – even renaming it ‘Legacy of Health’ as indeed, the greatest gift of my business is that one day I can leave it to my son, R. Luke Paschal. We are Legacy of Health – 50 years and growing!”

While Susan’s business has achieved that major milestone of 50 years, her best asset is her attitude towards the next 50 years. Innovation has always been at the heart of Shaklee, and the Bartz-Herrick family is an example of that, always heading onward and upward!

Consider the long history of their Shaklee lineage…
